Ella

Ella was found from a Craigslist post from an owner who was unable to socialize her. She was caged except for when she was allowed out to roam in a bathroom but wasn’t very human friendly. It took her awhile to warm up but she did. Chinchillas are very scared and timid by nature but she started to learn that humans are safe. She enjoyed chin scratches and rubs behind the ear, making shivs out of her wooden treats, and tossing around all of her hat until she found the right piece. She joined her forever place with us 10/2015 and passed away 10/18/2018.

Bullwinkle

Found on Craigslist with his brother Rocky, they both lived up to their name. Despite being found in deplorable conditions they were nothing but kind and funny guys. He loved humans and was playing and ornery. He always kept me laughing by stashing items, especially the baby wipes while I was trying to clean. He joined the group in the fall of 2015 and passed away on 09/10/2021.

Blade

Blade is not a traditional sanctuary member. She and her companion Creamsicle didn’t have a place to go and we welcomed them in. Blade doesn’t mind being handled, especially on cold days when she can sit in your sweatshirt and stay warm. She found us on 10/13/2015.

Creamsicle

Creamsicle was surrendered with Blade, their cagemate. Creamsicle isn’t as fond of humans but enjoys solitude and dark places to hide. Creamsicle came to us on 10/13/2015.

Albus

Albus and his sister Luna were surrendered after their owner reached out unable to pay for veterinary care when Albus fell out of a hammock. She said she’d let them free in Philly if I didn’t come right then so I dropped everything to do. Because his wonders were left untreated the vets were uncertain he would even survive. The infection in his mouth ate away a lot of teeth and created a hole in his mouth. Thankfully he did survive and lived a long happy life. He was the most care-free, aloof ferret I have ever met. He arrived on 10/25/2017 and passed away on 08/10/2020.

Luna

Luna was surrendered with her brother Albus when their own couldn’t cover his veterinary care after he fell out of a hammock. You could tell Luna had a hard life and may not have been handled much before. She was hesitant of humans and would sometimes bite. She enjoyed showing her love in ways that kept me on my toes- like biting my toes. Her bites used to be a warning to stay away and turned into something beautiful- stashing to mark you as a prized possession. She was sassy, confident, and able to hold her own. Luna joined us on 10/25/2017 and passed away on 03/10/2022.

Fang

Fang was surrendered with his sister Ash. I drove to pick them both up in a down storm on Christmas Eve. Fang has always been a perfect mix of inquisitive and playful. He’s the definition of a dapper gentleman. He joined us 12/24/2017 and passed away on 06/05/2024.

Ash

Ash came with her brother Fang and were known as my Christmas Eve babies. In a snowstorm on Christmas Eve, I picked up the pair when their parents were no longer able to care for them. They reported it was because they fell on hard times and couldn’t afford food but I quickly noticed Ash was sick when she arrived home and rushed her into the vet. Unfortunately it was too late for her. She was hospitalized for for 4 days she was not improving. She was bleeding internally and wasn’t well enough for any exploratory procedures. I opted to let her go peacefully. Although she was only with me for a few days, she licked my tears away before she passed. I can only hope she sensed love from me and was letting me know she was grateful for my decision. She blessed me with her presence on 12/24/2017 and was laid to rest on 01/07/2018.

Frost

Frost was rescued as a lone baby ferret from a family who was unable to safely provide a home for a prey-driven husky puppy and a ferret. Frost came as one of the most playful ferrets and I remember the first night when I put a macaroni pit into his play area and he went crazy. Even though he slowed down with age, he forever loved to dig in any of the dig boxes we had available. He was the grumpy old man of the group and was respected by so many ferrets who came into rescue here. He lived a full and long life with us, surrendered on 11/02/2017, and passing away on 03/14/2025.

Fuzz

Fuzz and his sister Sage came in as a pair after their young owner was unable to provide proper care due to serious life changes and family issues. Despite adopting from another local rescue she found my information and wanted to surrender to me. After clearing it with them, the duo joined our family. Fuzz was the most hyper ferret I have ever witnessed. There was not a second of the day he didn’t play- which is odd since ferrets sleep A LOT. He has since calmed down a little but still loves to go crazy. He is one of the most cuddly ferrets I’ve ever met and will sit and nap on you for hours. Fuzz has battled cancer a few times since being here but is a strong boy. He joined our family on 04/19/2022.

Elliot

Elliot was an emergency rescue. His Craigslist ad was sent to me and it was one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. He was living in a wire bird cage with no covering, no blanket, no litter box. He was tiny and oily looking. Despite reaching out numerous times and offering rescue help, the man refused and would only sell Elliot. We went in, drove 3 hours to Reading, and paid a ransom where Elliot was waiting in a shoe box with no air holes and no name. He was immediately transferred to a carrier with a blanket and food and water, and was named Elliot as a tribute to my grandmother Elaine who had recently passed. He’s now thriving and one of the most photogenic ferrets we have. He was rescued 10/13/2022.

Coco

Coco was surrendered on 12/30/2022. She was purchased for a teen daughter who unfortunately lost interest and eventually moved away for college. The mom was not able to care for Coco and so she spent over a year in her cage, unable to come out. She was surrendered at almost 3 years old and is a very sweet girl. She had biting issues when first arriving but since then has learned to love humans, although she is a queen and like to terrorize her brothers every once in awhile. She’s very curious and nosey but loves to be around humans.

Frodo

The story of Frodo is a complicated one that boils down to a simple answer: our paths were meant to cross. What started as an urgent plea on facebook to stop someone from letting their ferret outside to get rid of him turned into a much larger story of someone facing many life challenges and having nowhere else to turn (they made the lie up just to see help). Frodo was taken into sanctuary and received surgery to remove a mast cell tumor. He was an inquisitive boy who was kind of loved his siblings. Mast cell tumors don’t usually bother ferrets but unfortunately his came back and he passed away. He found sanctuary on 06/29/2023 and passed away on 09/02/2023.

Earl

Earl came to us at the request of a local rescue who was asked by a county shelter to take a blind, elderly, male ferret that was unable to be handled. The shelter wasn’t equipped to provide care and the rescue realized Earl wasn’t a typical ferret that was easily adopted. She needed lots of time to grow used to humans and even now is very bitey. Turns out Earl was a girl and was renamed Earlene. She was a shark in her past life and still appreciates using her teeth way more than other ferrets but she’s happy, received the proper vet care to stay healthy, and settled in. She is a lone ferret but is happy. She found her home with us on 05/15/2023.

Fi

Fi came into the sanctuary due to a foster please of a local rescue who was alerted of a senior dog who was in desperate need of help. They were not equipped to provide the kind of extensive medical care she needed and she was taken into sanctuary so we could provide that to her. She was partially blind, severely anxious, and was dealing with severe kidney disease. She had so much love and desire for human interaction despite everything she went through. She came to us in end stage of her disease and unfortunately didn’t spend much time with us but we valued every day. She came to us on 08/05/2023 and passed away on 11/22/2023.

Faith

Faith was adopted at age 10 from a shelter in Northern NJ. She was a foster fail who had a horrible prior life that led to many health and behavioral issues she had to overcome. It took many years and love to get her there but she was the definition of resilience. She enjoyed happy, eating, and redecorating the living room with her torn up stuffies. She was the perfect combination of silly, loving, and ornery. Faith found a home with us on 01/10/2017 and passed away on 05/26/2022.

Henry

Henry was adopted from SJRS. I visited once and was considering fostering due to recently losing our other senior Faith, however I drove all the way back that same day because I couldn’t imagine leaving him there for one more day. He was a senior who could hardly walk, with “slight” heartworm and pneumonia they said. The shelter couldn’t treat him while he was there. Unfortunately I sensed something wasn’t right and he was brought in the next morning to our local vet, not even 12 fill hours after adopting him. With a variety of tests it was discovered he had a very enlarged heart, severe heartworm, and fluid in his organs, and was in heart failure. He got treats and songs from the staff and myself as we made the decision to end his suffering. I always hesitate sharing his story- I feel like we didn’t meet soon enough to make a difference in his life. But then I remember he died knowing a home and someone who loved him for at least a little bit. He didn’t die in a cement cell at a shelter. He was given peace and sometimes that’s the kindness thing we can offer. These cases are especially hard. Henry joined us 05/28/2022 and was gifted a peaceful passing on 05/29/2022.
